IC36 is easy to sail, BUT YES, we can add some more speed if that's what gets you going!
Hoist your mainsail, add some flying sails and speeds over 20 knots are easily achievable in the right conditions. Our catamarans are constructed from high-tech materials and fitted with the latest generation performance hardware, with overall weight from 2,2 to 2,8 tons (dry), depending on your specification.
Narrow hull profile
For a smooth passage through the water, your catamaran needs slim hulls. The IC36's unique narrow hull shape below the waterline is derived from the same design thinking that goes into today's high-speed racing catamarans. Narrow hulls give you lower hydrodynamic resistance and higher top-end speeds. But above the waterline you will experience the comfort of a cruising catamaran, with a high-volume hull body and standing height of almost 2 meters.
Compared with a fixed mast, the aerodynamic efficiency of a rotating mast is 8-12% higher because it follows the angle of mainsail. Mast turbulence is almost completely eliminated.
A carbon mast weights 40% less than aluminium. This means less bow pitching and resulting in more speed and stability, as well as greater comfort on board.
Light-weight te textile stays and Facnor jib furler are further examples of the high-performance DNA of the IC36.
Daggerboards are vertical keels which optimize drag, speed and even safety. The IC36 daggerboards are made of Textreme carbon fibre.
A cat with daggerboards will sail consistently faster and with higher upwind pointing than a cat with keels built into the hulls. Upwind performance is 3-8 degrees higher and delivers an additional 2-5 knots of speed. The daggerboards are slightly canted, which means they produce some lift and reduce the hydrodynamic resistance of the hulls.
In winds of up to 25 knots daggerboards help optimize smooth sailing and high pointing along with comfortable sailing. In heavy weather they provide a very important safety feature when they are raised, enabling the boat to slip sideways when a gust hits, helping to keep the boat stable and avoiding tripping over.
The trim of the daggerboards is easily changed while sailing, making it possible to tune the boat for high performance or high safety.

We were thinking about all possible cockpit functions. The result is more then 10m2 / 107 sq ft of space for work, storing and living. Great storing bench for inflatable tender, fenders, composite gas bottles or light gas/petrol honda generator. Folding desk with safety handles has combination of burner plus sink and fridge for beverages. When staying at the anchor is cooking and access to cold beverages easy thing. Cooking at fresh air adds value of pleasant moments in the company of family and friends.
The coachroof offers many different functions. You can use it to control the level of spray and wind protection that you're looking for. It also provides a useful place for mounting powerful Solbian solar panels and a long deflector fitted with textile blind which brings more shade to the cockpit when lying at anchor. On the other hand, when you're looking for maximum speed and minimum aerodynamic drag, the clear vinyls on each side can be uncovered, and the deflector blind and aft solar panels can be folded away.
More sun or less spray? With the sun blind, it's your choice. The IC36's water-repellent folding blind enhances the comfort of the boat and the cockpit space in particular. More sun and fresh air in the cockpit can be very welcome on a particularly hot day. Or if you're looking to shelter from the elements, simply close the blind to shut out the sun, sea spray or pouring rain.
Space plan and side views
Let's give you an idea of the overall layout of the boat.
The IC36 can accommodate up to 8 people in their own berths.
Starboard side: is the owner side with most of electronics systems situated here. There are 3 aft berths (2 higher up, 1 below), wardrobe, navigation table, toilet with shower and a plenty of storage space.
Port side: 3 aft berths (2 higher up, 1 below), wardrobe, galley with 2 gas burners and sink, fridge, 2 bow berths in a bunk arrangement.
Cockpit: large bench positioned aft of the mast, folding table with optionaly installed fridge, sink with burner. Another bench can also be used, created from the passarelle installed on the aft beam.
It's important to note that both hulls are electrically independent, for greater reliability and redundancy.

Mast access from cockpit
It is essential to be able to adjust sails easily at any time for any given situation. Just a few quick steps away from the mast hatch (zipped or opened) are halyards and reefing lines powered by two dedicated mast winches.
There are two manual winches for adjusting the mainsail track, mainsheet and headsails, positioned close to hand for a second crew person.
Much of the deck layout has inspired by the inventive solutions developed by singlehanded racing sailors, for whom quick access to all necessary sail-handling hardware is vital.
Instruments are mounted directly in front of the steering position. There is an option to upgrade 9 " to a 12" B&G plotter.
Tiller or wheel? It's not always a straightforward answer. However, for the IC36 we a have chosen a tiller to give you a better view from the outboard, with a simple and reliable rudder configuration that allows the helmsman excellent feel and good feedback. For quick and accurate steering, this tiller configuration is the best there is.

Solbian panels SP series sits at the top of Solbian's range, thanks to the use of selected back-contact monocrystalline silicon cells, reaching a record 24% conversion of sunlight into electricity and with a pleasant appearance thanks to the electrical contacts hidden on the back. Custom made Genasun boosters help to overall performance and suppress unwanted shading. We have installed up to 8x144w (1,152 Kw) of power.
In combination with Oceanvolt electric engines IC36 uses hydro-regeneration mode.

We care about safety at all times, and have designed to make the IC36 one of the safest boats on the market. The IC36 is developed to be unsinkable thanks to low overall weight, foam construction core and three air cells: in the bow, around the daggerboard casings, and aft.
Avoid bow pitching
We have optimized the bow interior enviroment. Bows are classified as collision sections with air pockets to ensure unsinkability. With inverted bows they generate smooth passage through choppy seas and produce less spray. The bow design of the IC36 results in less bow pitching and higher levels of safety, which is always our biggest focus.
The mast position is optimized for maximum stability and positioned well aft. All the highest-weight items of the boat have been located under or close to the mast to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. These include propulsion batteries and electronics, and water tanks installed in the carbon compression beam on either side of the mast. The weight distribution has been carefully optimized, with light electric engines at the stern along with an optimized bow interior that significantly contributes to the balance of the whole platform and its agility in a choppy sea. The mast being stepped further aft means the pitching of bows is significantly reduced compared with most catamarans on the market.
Construction from the racing world
Did you know epoxy resin is 4 times more expensive, but 30% stiffer and 2 times more impact-resistant
than polyester and vinylester? Our Epoxy/Airex foam vacuum sandwich construction makes the IC36 very safe and strong. This construction technique comes from the racing world and every part of the boat uses different sandwich composition. The main hull construction is from glass fiber, but there is Kevlar reinforcement at colision sections and at the bottom to withstand possible impact. Carbon fibre is used at the most highly stressed parts like beams, tiller, mast and many other items of equipment to keep the weight down whilst maximising stiffness. Bulkheads are glued manually. This combination of materials and construction techniques ensure optimal longevity and performance of the IC36.

The Oceanvolt platform is a complete power solution for the entire IC36 - 12V service power system as well for equipment running 220V outlets. Range and recharging are achieved either through hydro-generation or if necessary through a very weight saving 2,2 Kw Honda i22 generator which can enable constant long-range cruising or bringing batteries up to a full charge in about 1 hour.

Lithium Ion batteries are superior to other battery storage technology; highest storage capacity of 2 x 7,6 Kw, highly effective current delivery, high charge capacity resilience and wide temperature range performance.
Hydro-generation - catamarans cruise at faster speeds which means that regeneration capabilities are significantly higher (hydro generation capability increases significantly at speeds over 6kn). And in case we haven't told you already, the IC36 is very fast, so very well suited to rapid regeneration!

But there are times when solar panels can be a hindrance. If the IC36 is docked OR if you're racing and you want to minimise aero-resistance, or a storm is on the horizon, it might well be time to fold away the aft solar panels. The panels on the coachroof work at all times, provided of course that you've specified a coachroof in the first place!

From its 6,2 meters sailing width, the IC36 dismantles to 2,5 meters, making it legally trailerable by car with a towing capacity of 3.500 kg / 7.716 lb, eg. Mercedes G, Gls, Landrover Discovery, Toyota and many others.
The IC36 is ready for customer assembly or by Independent's catamaran assembly team.
